Uzbekistan, Tashkent – EUCA Alliance. From February 5, one of the largest checkpoints on the Uzbek-Kazakh border, “Gishtkuprik”, will temporarily cease operations.
The Customs Committee of Uzbekistan explained that the checkpoint is being closed for four months to complete a large-scale reconstruction, which has been ongoing since 2022. Until now, the checkpoint remained open, and temporary paths with canopies were organized for pedestrians. However, now it will be possible to cross the border only through the recently renovated Navoi (Zangiata) post in the Tashkent region, located less than 20 kilometers away.
The customs service clarified that the Navoi checkpoint will be accessible to pedestrians, cars and buses, but the movement of trucks through it is temporarily prohibited.
According to the State Customs Committee, the operation of the Dovud Ota checkpoint will be suspended for three months starting from February 1. There is no exact information about Gishtkuprik yet: the closing date will be announced later, the SCC told a Podrobno.uz correspondent.
The closure is due to reconstruction work: in the first case, they are carried out at the adjacent checkpoint “Tazhen” on the Kazakhstan side, in the second – on the territory of our country.
Citizens and vehicle owners crossing the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are urged to use other checkpoints at this time – “Ok Oltin” and “Malik” in Syrdarya, as well as “Yallama” and “Navoi” in the Tashkent region, which opened today after reconstruction. Freight transport with a carrying capacity of more than 3.5 tons is allowed to continue moving through the “Dovud Ota” checkpoint as an exception.
Let us recall that the reconstruction of the Gishtkuprik customs post has been underway since 2022. The other day, customs officials presented some details of the project: the number of road lanes will be increased for motor vehicles, and a passport-free pass system will be in operation for pedestrians. The new complex will also have duty-free shops, and solar panels will supply it with energy.
that citizens can also use other checkpoints – “Ok Oltin” and “Malik” in Syrdarya, as well as “Yallama” in Tashkent region.
